20 Misconceptions About Toto Asia: Busted

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities overseas and was doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and the People's Republic of China. Toto believed that North America as a growth market for Washlet's bidets and toilets, as opposed to its "base" markets of Japan and China.

Dhaniram Toto was documenting Toto words to ensure the next generation could read the words. However, many of the words were being replaced with foreign ones, like dui, which is Bengali for verandah.

Origins

The early history of Toto which began in 1917, mirrored Japan's rapid economic expansion. In the first half of its existence, the company manufactured goods to meet demand for modern, contemporary urban housing. It had the first tunnel kilns in the country to produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered automation to allow production control, allowing greater efficiency and consistency.

In the late 1980s the company began expanding outwards to take advantage of sales and new markets. It established the Cera Trading Company, importing and marketing other manufacturers' products to complement its own lines of plumbing fittings and sanitary earthenware. This strategy helped to increase sales and expand the market share of the company globally.

In the 1990s, Toto had shifted its focus on research and development for household appliances that are water-related. It also improved its distribution system to better meet the needs of customers and to increase profits. The company employed the same approach of just-in-time in its supply chain management and sales program. This resulted in a higher level customer satisfaction.

Toto has been able to continue to innovate with regard to toilet technology. The most recent toilet features a strong, eco-friendly tornado flush. The company uses recycled water in its manufacturing process, and also has a green purchasing policy. Apart from toilets, Toto manufactures faucets and bathtubs, as well as hand dryers that are more efficient in terms of energy consumption than conventional models.

The first museum of the company opened in 2015 and features exhibits on Toto's most iconic products and their development as well as its group companies (all that deal with ceramics), history of plumbing and products such as bath units and, in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum has a bathroom with a washbasin and other toilet innovations.

Before the formation of Toto the band, members of the band did sessions for many musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro, and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all performed on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also played on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name like Asia you'd think that the group would be prog queens and kings but they're actually a pretty straight forward rock band. The band was initially four members and released two albums in 1979, the self-titled debut album and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The band has a varied musical background but their biggest success came in 1982 when they released Toto IV.

The album was a major blockbuster, but not without its own set of issues. Record companies put the band on the spot with the ultimatum "give us an album that is a success or we'll drop you" and the pressure was on to give it. Toto was able to achieve this through the aid of the hit song "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is the result of their previous experiences. Before forming the group, members worked as session musicians for artists like Boz Scaggs. Steely Dan and Seals and Crofts. Their sonic signature has since become the standard for '80s pop, and has influenced many contemporary artists.

The album opens up hard with tracks like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to create great AOR songs that slowly sink into your head. The album also has some more mellow, jazzy tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. The album ends with Great Expectations. This song blends folk and the distorted AOR that could seem like a complete blunder, but is very effective.

After Toto IV The band's fortunes took a turn to the downside. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career and the band was dominated by drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the group in the aftermath of drug-related charges. However, the group continued to perform as a trio, which included Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.

Toto released Isolation despite the turmoil. It wasn't as well-liked as IV. However, the band had a successful chart-topping album in the year 1992 with Kingdom of Desire. The album was the last of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new vocalist.

Line-up

The band's third album, Turn Back, marked an reversion to the classic sextet style of the previous albums. It was a stronger, more consistent effort with a harder edge than Hydra. The more edgy sound of the album was indicative of the maturation of group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's greater virtuosity on drums, and an improved, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard skills were also sharper, more complex, and less derivative on previous efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live concert in Amsterdam which was released as a two-CD set titled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released a brand new studio album a few months after and then embarked on a world tour to promote it. During this time keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich and Lukather started exploring old demos and tapes in search of a new album featuring songs that were never recorded before. It was completed in 2001 as a double album titled Then and Now. It was the first album by the band without a single song titled "A".  스포츠토토  contained a previously unreleased track titled "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth record, Old Is New was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis that affected his singing abilities. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.

Downes along with the other original members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened a meeting in England in the beginning of 2006 to discuss the possibility of officially reforming the group. The lineup, which was minus Howe (who was working with Yes at the time), eventually became known as Toto XIV and toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band featured a special appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
